Cyndi Johnson
Director/Assistant Dean for IT at UNM School of Law
I almost hate to admit that I started in IT back in 1983, immediately after having graduated from college in the first ever class of Computer Science majors. Those were the days when the IBM PC was just coming to higher ed so my first job was in the University's Computer Center, teaching people about this strange new contraption called an IBM PC...complete with dual floppies and no hard drives. I've stayed in higher ed since with a brief 4-yr respite into the "real world" (at a software company followed by a stint at a Credit Union, to help introduce online banking). I've been with UNM since 1990, first as an independent contractor teaching for Continuing Ed and later at the School of Law as the Computer Services Manager. That was 1999. I'm now officially the IT Director and unofficially the Assistant Dean of IT. IT now includes Media Services, the Copy Center, and Telecommunications so my role has expanded.
In my spare time I foster for various animal rescue organizations. I currently have four dogs of my own, two cats, and two bottle baby Doberman puppies who lost their mom when they were 3 days old. I also have a very tolerant and understanding husband. Between us we have 7 grandkids, some in Albuquerque but others scattered around in AZ, TX and PA. I never lack of things to do, that's a fact!
I've been attending CALI since 2000 and have presented a time or two. I really wanted to present on student printing this year. I just couldn't think of anything to say. =)
That's me in a nutshell. Can't wait to see some old friends and make some new ones. See you in GA!
