Topic Modelling: Taxonomic Panacea or Another Heartbreaking Detour on the Road to Free and Open Law?

Why isn't there a free and open taxonomy for law like MeSH for medicine? Is it now possible to reverse engineer one using topic modelling software?

This session will explain what topic modelling is, what its good for, what free and open (and easy! Really! No command line needed!) tools are available for those interested in giving it (and other types of data analysis) a try and go over the results of my experiments in topic modelling that I've conducted while a research fellow at the Harvard Library Innovation Lab.  Live demonstrations and hands on trials are going to be possible if time permits and if audience is interested.

This program is appropriate for faculty or those who support faculty interested in dipping their toes into the brave new world of data modelling in law.
